What is a Village Design Statement (VDS)? A Village Design Statement enables communities, like Cotgrave, to manage change, whether this is a major new development or small scale alterations and additions. It cannot stop development. The statement is a published document produced by local people which records what they feel is distinctive about the village and the surrounding countryside. It also includes design principles for future development based on the distinctive local character of Cotgrave.

Is the VDS Useful for Cotgrave? Yes, a Village Design Statement is a very important document because it should be accepted by the Borough Council as Supplementary Planning Guidance. This means it mustbe taken into account when planning is considered in Cotgrave. It will also be used when considering planning applications for large and small developments in Cotgrave . It is your opportunity to influence the planning process.

How do we produce the VDS? The VDS is a document produced by the community and must involve as many people as possible. The Cotgrave forum's VDS subgroup held a photographic workshop in the Autumn. On this day people photographed features which are very important to them. These photos will be used as the backbone of the report. Following the workshop a group of people will get together to write the Village Design Statement. When it is agreed it will be passed to the Borough Council for adoption.

|
What does the VDS Include? The VDS will involve sections on local landmarks; roads, streets and pathways; characteristics and details of buildings and the space between them; special features; change and village evolution.
